Product Developer – Joinery Designer

The role of Product Developer – Joinery Designer will integrate a wider team to support the ongoing growth and development.
Our projects include predominantly co-living and hospitality schemes, conversions as well as new build, both major and minor schemes, from 9 to 400 units.
The Product Developer – Joinery Designer work will revolve predominantly around space saving/management, modular furniture, innovative multifunctional joinery, TV cabinets, sliding elements for space saving, kitchens with pocket doors, wardrobes, suspended metal racks above kitchen island with lighting, wall panelling, reception desks, headboards, upholstered panels, and more elements to develop. It will involve been proactive, independent, site loving who enjoy the interaction with site teams and technical detailing.

Prime Duties

  • Developing design concepts technically, producing fabrication drawings in Solidworks
  • Coordination with architectural drawings and export to AutoCAD drawings, working closely with Architect and Site Managers
  • Managing coordination of fabrication drawings with other professionals (architects, lighting specialists, electronics, fabricators etc)
  • Preparation of drawings for fabrication for:
    • Wood
    • Joinery
    • Basic metalwork
    • Solid surfaces
    • Acrylics
    • Basic upholstery
  • Responsible to specify adequate fittings, hinges, runners, adequate thickness of materials
  • Work with volume production as well as bespoke elements, and understand the differentiation
  • Producing detailed BOMs, costing
  • Setting up ‘bible of documents’ for project and product to capture summary, entire set of drawings, specification, costing, BOM, suppliers of any parts
  • Establish production of installation manuals
  • Compliance with relevant standards
  • where required, establish patent for specific items, CE marking – assistance with producing relevant documents will be required
  • FMEA preparation
  • BOMs, materials quantification, preparation schedules of quantities
  • Quality control at workshop and on sites
  • Production and fit-out Programme
  • Assistance to sites, pre- and during construction – with the intention to eliminate any potential clashes with sites – producing jigs and templates for contractors to use on site
  • Liaison with sites, site visits
  • Full time and constant liaison with shop floor and quality control
  • Coordinating and managing production standards for efficiency, minimum wastage and maximum utilization of resources
  • Coordination and planning of manufacturing processes in relation to the CNC department to ensure that goods are produced in the most cost-efficient way without affecting quality
  • Monitoring product standards, efficiency of production
  • Constant research and innovative techniques/ innovative fittings/ materials/ manufacturing processes
  • Undertaking value engineering/ optimisation of production
  • Cooperation with manager to optimise programme of production to achieve projects in time and on budget
  • Managing and coordinating joinery assistant designers, draftsmen

Requirements

  • Degree; BTEC or HND in a furniture-related subject such as:
    • Furniture design and making
    • Product and furniture design
    • CSWP -certified Construction management
  • Professional Software:
    • Solidworks 2020 (3D/2D CAD) – Advanced
    • AutoCAD
    • SketchUp
  • Minimum 12 years of practice in the UK
  • Be charismatic, highly social, creative, independent with proven experience driving multi-sites project
  • Have experience managing key relationships at a senior level
